Kingwood United Methodist Church sponsors our group to support our families in crisis who are dealing with LGBT issues. We do this by sharing our personal experiences, strength and hope in a safe, nonjudgmental place. We are primarily parents and family members of LGBT persons, but welcome all persons, gay or straight, and of any denomination. The group is designed as a discussion group, but programs are varied, including video, book reviews, and speakers. Topics range widely, but typically come from the journeys of our families, as we strive to live out our faith.

Our Open Hearts group serves as a safe community for LGBTQ persons and their friends, parents, and allies in the greater northeast Texas area. We began meeting in September, 2013 out of concern for clergy and laypeople in our vicinity who need a place and an alliance for solace. Our group includes LGBTQ persons and allies, and our meetings include videos, book studies, and support for hurting people. We actively work for full inclusion of all persons in the United Methodist church, and welcome all people

Started 10 years ago, as a support group for friends and families of LBGT persons.
Over the years, we have included allies and LGBT members.
Our meetings include speakers, videos, and most importantly, a time of sharing, love and support for all members. We had 2 educational programs for the entire congregation, which included a panel of Open Hearts members. We do mission projects for the LGBT community. Recently, we proudly became a Reconciling community. We welcome all people who believe in full inclusion of God’s children.

Our group was formed to provide within the church a safe place to find good information and support for parents of LGBT sons and daughters. We have evolved into a group, open to all denominations, that includes parents, straight allies and LGBT members. Our programs include speakers, videos, discussion, sharing, support, and above all – warm and welcoming fellowship. We welcome all who seek to learn more and support full inclusion of LGBT in the life of the church. We became a Reconciling Community in 2014.
